DESCRIPTION

“Double portion” is a reference to the biblical concept of a father giving a double portion of inheritance to a son so that he will be well equipped and have the resources to represent and carry on the culture of his father. Elijah gave Elisha his request for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit which was signified by his mantle, a symbol of authority, which was left after he was taken up in the chariot of fire. Elisha was then able to carry on with power to what he was called to do. The geometric design across the bottom of the painting is made up of the colors of the rainbow signifying a promise being kept.
